Light of Peace Thailand is a large-scale international meditation and candle-lighting gathering for world peace, held annually at Wat Phra Dhammakaya during the sacred Buddhist celebration of Makha Puja. The event brings together people from around the world to meditate in silence, light candles, and cultivate inner peace as a foundation for global harmony.
Created to inspire unity beyond culture, religion and nationality, Light of Peace welcomes everyone — including beginners and non‑Buddhists — to experience a powerful atmosphere of stillness, mindfulness, compassion and shared intention for peace. Participants gather under the full moon surrounded by thousands of fellow peace makers, and candles glowing together as a symbol of hope and collective goodwill for humanity.
The event is supported internationally by Bali Meditation Center (BMC), which helps guide and support international participants through meditation programs, cultural explanations and travel coordination. Beyond being a spiritual gathering, Light of Peace Thailand is also a deeply moving cultural experience that encourages people to reconnect with themselves, with others, and with the universal aspiration for peace.

After cultivating peace within during the retreat, join people from around the world at Wat Phra Dhammakaya on 21 February for an extraordinary Makha Puja meditation and candle-lighting gathering.

1 Million Person Meditation & Candle Lighting for World Peace
World Peace Through Inner Peace
Thailand • February 2027
A Journey Into Inner Peace
Step away from everyday life and spend meaningful days practising meditation with Buddhist monks in Thailand — before joining Light of Peace, a remarkable meditation and candle-lighting gathering for world peace.

Looking for inner peace
More stillness, awareness and meaningful time with yourself. Come ready to slow down, learn something new, and discover meditation in a supportive environment.
Willing to live simply
Comfortable with basic, shared accommodation and a simpler way of living.
Open to guided meditation
Meditation sessions are guided by Buddhist monks, with support to help you understand and develop your practice.
Willing to follow the retreat program
The atmosphere is relaxed, but we encourage everyone to participate in the scheduled sessions so you can get the most from your time here.
Comfortable with gentle human interaction
This is not a completely silent retreat. Participants may talk when appropriate, although we encourage keeping conversation minimal to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.
Open to learning and sharing
The program includes teachings, reflection, questions and sharing sessions — so there will be opportunities to learn and interact with monks and fellow participants.
Happy to share the journey with others
You’ll be living and practising alongside people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds.
“Bring an open mind and a willingness to experience the journey”
Your journey begins within
Inner Light is an opportunity to slow down, turn inward, and reconnect with the peace already within you. Through meditation, Buddhist wisdom, reflection and personal time, you can experience a simpler and quieter rhythm of life.
No previous meditation experience required.
Your stay
The retreat itself is peaceful, relaxed and welcoming. Our accommodation is simple and practical rather than luxurious.
Participants stay together in shared dormitory-style rooms — men and women in separate rooms — and sleep on floor mattresses or cushions rather than hotel-style beds.
Come prepared to live simply and share space respectfully with others.

Simple living
Less outside. More within.

A short film from a previous Light of Peace, on the centre's own channel.
Photographs from previous years.
Short clips from people who came to Bali Meditation Center, in their own words. They were filmed at our retreats in Bali rather than at Light of Peace — the ceremony in Thailand is the film and the photographs above.
When we meditate together the mind becomes still, the heart becomes open, and a peace is created that reaches further than any of us reaches alone.
Stronger together
Collective energy multiplies our goodness.
Inner peace
Calm the mind and let the tension go.
Spread peace
Share a wish for a better world together.
Transform lives
A moment of stillness can change everything.

A mat is laid out for every participant and the sessions are sat on the floor, in one hall, together.
If sitting on the floor is genuinely not possible for you, a chair is available — say so on your application, or tell a member of staff when you arrive, and one will be ready for you.
White clothing is worn throughout the programme and at the ceremony. It is a mark of respect for the place rather than a uniform. Please avoid shorts and sleeveless tops anywhere inside the temple grounds and the retreat centre.

Loose clothing is worth choosing on purpose: much of each day is spent sitting on the floor.
Join people from around the world for a journey of meditation, stillness and peace that you will not forget.
