Where you will sleep

Accommodation is simple and shared — this is a retreat, not a hotel. The photograph shows a real room, made up the way you will find it.
A shared room, no more than five people
You sleep in the same room as other participants, with a maximum of five to a room. Men and women are in separate rooms.
Bedding is provided
A floor mattress, a blanket and a pillow are waiting in the room. There is no hotel-style bed.
Ceiling fans, no air conditioning
The rooms are cooled by ceiling fans. February evenings are cooler — bring the light layer on the list below.
Come prepared to live simply
Space is shared, and part of the retreat is living lightly and respecting the people you share it with.
What to bring
You may wish to bring your own meditation cushion or yoga mat, although we do provide some at the retreat centre.
White meditation clothes
Comfortable white attire suitable for meditation, enough for the whole of your stay. There is a free washing machine and a drying rack if you need to wash anything.
Towels
Fresh towels for your own use during the retreat.
Sunscreen and a hat
The sun can be strong in Thailand, and part of each day is outdoors.
A light jacket or shawl
The temperature drops in the evenings.
Personal toiletries
Toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash and anything else you use.
Any medication you need
Bring what you take, and tell the retreat staff about any medical condition.
Guidelines
We kindly ask you to keep to a few guidelines. Refraining from alcohol and any intoxicant for the length of the retreat is one of them, and we appreciate your cooperation in staying within the facility throughout the course.
Phones and other communication devices are collected when the retreat days begin and returned to you on 20 February. The quiet is the point of these days, and a screen in the room is the quickest way to lose it.
Please also be aware that the retreat is not equipped to support people experiencing symptoms related to psychological conditions, or who have been diagnosed with a mental illness. The effects of meditation vary from person to person. If you have any uncertainty, we strongly recommend speaking to a medical professional before registering.
Before you register
Registration includes a short consent form. It asks for:
- Your date of birth and a contact number
- An emergency contact — their name and number
- Any mental health condition you would like us to know about
- Your agreement that staff may contact that person, and release relevant health information to a hospital, if that becomes necessary during the retreat
- Your confirmation that you are well enough to take part, and that you take responsibility for yourself
Anything you share, in the application or at the retreat, is held in confidence by the Bali Meditation Center, kept in a secure database, and seen only by authorised staff.
If you have a specific concern or condition, tell us. We are here to support you.
